This summer, bring your children to Artmania’s Studio in beautiful Dundarave Village for fun camps that will nurture their creativity. We offer all types of classes for all ages. If you read my last two blog posts, you’ll know that our team of instructors will lead your children in fun filled days of art. In July, students will learn about architecture and design, creating their own cityscapes or fantasy castle, they’ll also create fabulous translucent sculptures and paintings, work with papier-mâché, puffy paint, watercolour, textile art and that’s just the first part of the summer!
Week 5 of Artmania’s Summer Camp will teach students the multi-layering techniques to create decorative surfaces, making a keepsake treasure chest Secret Chests & Hidden Treasure: Monday Aug 1 to Thursday Aug 4; 9am – 12:30pm.
In the afternoon class Wooden Cuffs & Mythical Medallions: Monday Aug 1 to Thursday Aug 4; 1:30pm – 5:00pm, students are lead through a medieval journey, learning about medieval myths & legends with a series of tales told by our theatrical instructors. They will discover the ancient art of molding wood to create a decorative cuff and capture their creativity in a painting and medallion. Each Friday, students learn a selection of painting, print-making, and sculpture inspired by a different theme. The Friday class will be inspired by Cryptic Cave creatures Let’s Get Messy: Cryptic Cave Creatures: Friday Aug 5; 9am – 5:00pm.
The Medieval journey will continue the following week as our theatrical teachers take students on an expedition through ancient story telling. Students will create a translucent star votive candle and explore resin mold making to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece Let In The Light & Mythical Stories: Monday Aug 8 to Thursday Aug 11; 9am – 12:30pm.
The afternoon class will focus on the beautiful mosaic masterpieces that decorate the streets and buildings of Barcelona, Spain. Using this as inspiration, students will construct their own series of clay wall sculptures. In these lessons, the students will also learn the unique technique of printmaking without a press to create beautiful editions of distinctive prints. They will layer colour and design to create striking works of art. We will frame the artwork so it’s ready to hang in their home gallery Flamenco Footprints & Mosaic Masterpiece: Monday Aug 8 to Thursday Aug 11; 1:30pm – 5:00pm.

For the week of August 15th, students will learn about the decorative art of Henri Matisse and the Fauves. Learn his techniques for drawing, painting, and creating “resists” and apply these skills to a canvas featuring a still life painting Mysteries of Matisse: Monday Aug 15 to Thursday Aug 18; 9am – 12:30pm.
We’ll carry the craziness of the Fauves into the afternoon as students learn to use the bright, intoxicating colour of the sun as paint! They will decorate gym bags using beautiful fabric designs inspired by the sun – using artmania’s secret-formula fabric dye Sun Paintings: Monday Aug 15 to Thursday Aug 18; 1:30pm – 5pm.

Need a pencil case for back to school? Students will make one during the week of August 22nd Picasso Pencil Case: Monday Aug 22 to Thursday Aug 25; 9am – 12:30pm. Students will learn about Pablo Picasso and master the professional artistic skills used to create their own self-portrait. Designs will be carved onto a rubber surface and applied to textiles. Each of the works will be sewn into a beautiful pencil case just in time for school!
The afternoons will get wild as students design and construct their own masks inspired by the wild African masks used in ceremonial practices. The masks will be functional and can be stored on a stand to display as a sculpture when not in use African Art & Wild Mask Sculptures: Monday Aug 22 to Thursday Aug 25; 1:30-5:00pm. The last week of summer will be dedicated to teaching the basics of 2D and 3D sculptural form and the many materials you can use to accomplish your goals. Referring to the artist Alexander Calder for inspiration, students will create line drawings that spring off of the page as a three dimensional sculpture. Students will come away with a series of beautiful sculptures to add to their home gallery.
